Boot Camp! Thursday, Apr 29 2010

http://sites.google.com/site/llsbootcamp/home

Team in Training is hosting a boot camp for the month of May.  The camp will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30-7:30pm at Memorial Park.  Classes are $20 each or $130 for all 8.  The money goes straight to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and it will go towards meeting my fundraising goal if you put my name in the “referrred by” spot when registering.

Practice Update Thursday, Apr 29 2010

This week we are doing 18 miles!  Yep, 18 entire miles this week.  Our route takes us from Memorial park to the George R Brown and then through the Heights and back to Memorial Park.  I can’t believe the amount of miles I am able to walk/run every week.  I got into this in order to raise money for a good cause but I am also finding that I am able to accomplish more than I ever thought I could.

In two weeks we do the big 21 mile route and then that is the highest mileage we do before race day when I will complete 26.2 miles.  I have to say that I want to cry when I write that but they are definitely tears of joy.  Never tell yourself you can’t do something!

25 DAYS!!! Thursday, Apr 29 2010

If you are quick at math you know that the marathon is more than 25 days away but this countdown is until the last day to meet my fundraising goal.  I did the calculations and I am around $800 shy of my $2900 goal.

I feel so good about raising $2100 and now I am just praying I can get to the $2900 goal.

Honored Teammate Tuesday, Mar 30 2010

Please keep Tristen in your prayers.  He is still living in Memphis with his parents so that he can be close to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital.  He is currently being treated as outpatient and living at the Target House but he has been admitted a couple times already as inpatient due to health issues that have come up.  It is definitely more enjoyable to be at Target House with his family so please pray that he can continue to stay outpatient and that his health will continue to improve.

It has been brought to my attention that I have not blogged in quite some time so I am going to give y’all an update.  Training for the marathon is going really well.  I absolutely love it and it is much more enjoyable for me than the triathlon training.  I feel like I have so much going on in my life that it was tough for me to then focus on 3 sports.  Anyways, I love my marathon team and I am counting the days until San Diego.

Here is a little summary of my current workout schedule:

Sundays:            Swim (1 hour)
                           Run/Walk (1 hour)

Mondays:           Run/Walk (1 hour)

Tuesdays:          Swim (1 hour)
                            Run/Walk (1 hour)

Wednesdays:    Hill Training

Thursdays:       Run/Walk (1 hour)

Fridays:               Rest

Saturdays:          Long Distance Run/Walk

(I also throw weights in there and alternate days depending on what I am working)

Marathon Tuesday, Mar 9 2010

Hello everyone!  I wanted to give you an update on Team in Training.  Christy and I decided to switch from the triathlon team to the marathon team.  When I started I thought I was going to hate the running part but it has become my favorite.  It is funny what you learn about yourself when you try something new.  Anyways, there is a chance for us to join the marathon team and that is what we have decided to do.

We are still going to take part in a sprint triathlon this Spring so that we can use and improve on the skills we have been learning.  In addition, we will be doing the Rock n Roll Marathon in San Diego on June 6th.  I am excited about this race for two reasons.  One reason is that I have never been to San Diego and I think it would be a beautiful place to visit and a nice place to do some running.  The other reason is that this specific marathon is dedicated to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.  This means that not only does the money raised by Team in Training go to LLS but also a good portion of the participant entry fees.  I love that I will be racing with people who want to give back to LLS.

Joining the marathon team doesn’t really change anything other than the fact that I will be doing a marathon.  The fundraising goal is still $2900, I am still participating in honor of Tristen & Maddy, and the money still goes to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.  I am still training with Team in Training but I will just be doing a different race.  I wanted to assure you that your money is still going to the same cause.

Swimming Wednesday, Mar 3 2010

Last night was swim practice and Coach Dan meant business.  He said we all looked a little too happy after practice last time and he needed to change that this week.  We completed 2400 meters of swimming and I was tired.  We did a lot of racing laps so these were not all leisurely swims.  My body didn’t hurt quite as much as my lungs.  I am still trying to get a hang of this breathing while swimming thing and it is not easy.  I will say that I notice improvement each week though so I am feeling more confident about that fact.  I was able to decrease the amount of strokes it took me to get across the pool and limit the amount of kicking I do.  I look forward to learning more and improving more each week I am out there.

I definitely have a new appreciation for people like Michael Phelps.  On Saturday night I had a new appreciation for Curlers after taking curling lessons with some friends.  Today I have a new appreciation for swimmers.  Michael Phelps makes it all look so easy and he just keeps on winning races and medals.  How does he do it?

March 2, 2010 Tuesday, Mar 2 2010

I cannot believe it is already March.  I have three more months of training.  Part of me is glad to have three more months and then the other part wonders what I have gotten myself into.  Practices are going well and I can tell that I am improving.  I have swim practice tonight and it is going to be another cold evening in Houston…good thing the pool is heated.

I added up all the money I have received so far plus the money I earned through the silent auction, my refer a friend bonus, and my registration fee.  All the money put together equals $1960.  Woohoo!  I have less than $1000 left to raise.  I am feeling good about this and I am so excited about helping out the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

I want to give a big thanks to Debbie (my aunt), Lindsay G. (friend) and Ron (my co-worker) who both donated in the past few days.  Thanks for your help and support!!

Big Thanks! Wednesday, Feb 24 2010

I just want to take a moment to say thanks to all the people who have donated so far.  Some donated online and others sent in checks or donated items for the silent auction.

February 24th Wednesday, Feb 24 2010

I am sorry that it has been so long since my last update.  I got sick last week and have been playing catch-up ever since.  I woke up Wednesday morning feeling extremely dizzy and nauseated.  I went to the emergency clinic and the Doctor said I had Vertigo.  I was home from work for three days and I was not able to workout. :(   I am feeling better now and plan on going to track practice tomorrow night.  It will be my first official Thursday night track practice so I will have update tomorrow night and let everyone know how it went.
